hey there im new to tiling, ive got a job to do its a patients toilet, the room is empty and the walls are ply wooded,
first of all do i need to apply pva bonding to the ply wood before tiling it or is the adhevise just go straight onto it, (never tiled onto a play wooded wall before)
second of all ive to put porcelan floor tiles on the walls but i dont no wot size they are yet not until friday and im starting the job on sat,
i ususally use bal blue start would that be strong enough for porcelan tiles,
can someone please let me no roughly wot the biggest floor tils is i can use on a wall with bal blue star or even if its possible, any advice or reccomendations? many thanks!

hello mate....

You will need to make sure the ply is fixed securely enough to support the weight of the new tiles...blue star is no good for tiling onto ply or for fixing porcelain tiles...
You will have to use a cement based flexible powder adhesive for this project...
Bal single part flexible is ideal as it is slow setting and has a long pot life so will give you plenty of working time.....
I would prime the walls with an acrylic primer suitable for wood....
As for the size of the tiles . they do come in rather large sizes but most common sizes will be about 300mmx300m....600mmx300mm and 600mmx600mm this are approx measurements as tile makes vary ...
There are many formats of porcelain these are the most common...

P.s..don,t ever use PVA to prime....

dave u are the man! thanks for the info the ply wood is well fixed the room has just been built by builders pretty good project coz the room is empty hoping to have it finished on sunday nite start on sat, when u mix the cement based adhesive how thick should it be is it quite tacky? 😉

hi mate - I use Mapei - keraquick - flexi - cement based - no need to prime plywood around £13.70 per bag incl VAT at trade

just a little note sjw you would be better using a little higher spec on plywood like ctf 3 with AD1 admix or even better rapid with AD1😛ete

AL porcelain tiles are used on walls as well as floors now days i have 600x600 tiles on my bathroom walls and floor

Cheers Pete, thought there might have been some weight issue with having floor tiles on walls so just wanted to check it out!

There are weight issues so be sure to always check that - but fitted correctly they'll not fall off or bring the house down.
