hi guys need advice just tiled a floor everthing was good put ply on top of chipboard then tiled then grouted but the plumbers put the pipes in the wrong place and now the floor is making a noise when walked on what could be the noise??i put theply down with panel pins every 400 mil thanks guys

hi pete...firstly did you check to see if the chipboard was well secured so there was no squeaks or movement and the ply should have been screwed down every 200 mm not nailed with panel pins every 400mm , either there is movement in the chipboard causing the noise or the ply is loose against the chip board.....
no cure for this but leave it and see what happens or start again...as for the pipes thats not your problem you didnt put them in ......dave..🙂

yep checked a few times is it possible for it to be movement but not show in the grout i.e crack lines??thanks dh

if there is excessive movement then it will show in the joints in time..could it be the pipes rubbing on the joists as well........dave...

am startin to think that(hopeing)it was ok until the plumbers moved the waste pipe the plumbers where total cowboys no planin invovled i had joiners puttin wet wall and everything without anything being said or noticed and i did check a few times for movement

I think thats got to be the biggest clue. Theres no way that a panel pin into chipboard is going to hold tight for long. Unless you can definately find another source of this noise I think you would have to assume the ply is moving in relation to the chipboard, sorry mate.

if it is the ply how will that effect the tiles in the future??am 90 percent sure there were no noise dave

As far as the installation goes peter.. you did the wrong thing by tacking down with panel pins, it will eventually lift with thermal expansion in the sub-strate..but as for the noise then its either the floor its self or some thing under as you walk on it...good luck ...dave..
