for the oldies who could not afford tile cutters

alreet Dave you are included in this as well mate. How many of yous have actually cut ya ya tiles using a scribe,hammer and a pair of nippers.

I have, I have I have!!!:hurray: Yey, I know about that!!! Not only normal tiles, but cut the corners of 440(!!) slate compound rooftiles in Cornwall for pretty feature rows just like that....how about that then...

Cut many quarries with a hammer and chisel, some days while working with more experienced tilers when i was a kid that was all i did all day.

Jimmy you must be older than me my son!! always had a tile cutter but in the early days no grinder or wet cutter, used a tile saw and nippers to cut shapes ,on floors only nippers , after a day nibblng floor tiles your hands were hanging off, eeeeh you young lads av it easy these days !! he he

I remember cutting slate tiles near 15mm thick using scribe and taping back of tile gently alright for straight cuts :smash:. Saved me a few times when on site up the west coast with no power for wet saw but instead of using the scribe used the tile cutter :yes:

normally cut thick quarries with scribe and pin hammer. apprentice looked on in astonishment. 2 years at college and never got taught it

i was brought up on toffee hammer and nips. no grinder and no wet cutter. i used to love chipping out waste outlets with me little hammer, made them into a work of art!
