Doing some research for an article i'm writing on restoration tiling etc, came across this info, to help the tile makers & staff at the potteries in stoke, who were dying young because of the fumes from tons of coal , lead arsenic etc etc.

Minton Hollins kindly had especially made a beer for these poor souls, how nice you may think they could die drunk :hurray: no this beer was even better than that it was brewed with a base of sulphuric acid :yikes::yikes::yikes:

How weird were those people?????

it's a colloqualism Tench. not sure why the words Me and Duck were adopted, but everybody in Stoke and surrounding areas are referred to as Duck.

according to wikipedia
It is believed to be derived from the Saxon word ‘ducas’ used to indicate respect, which in Middle English became "duc" or "duk" which denotes a leader, which in turn, became the title Duke and the Old French word "ducheé" which indicates the territory ruled by a Duke

Yes, I think I will, Mike, we'll get there the day before, obviously, a bit of a treck from Scarborough, but that means being able to have a good look round the museum, and there is a nice cafe, too, so all good. The people there who I talked to about booking the rooms have been absolutely lovely, as yet we still have the option of a smaller or larger room, to seat 10 or 15 people, I couldn't have asked for more flexibility or a friendlier enthusiastic attitude from them, I think they are quite excited about the class there. Phew, exciting and a bit nerve wrecking at the same time :)
