Grout cleaning

Any tips on how to keep ur grouting clean ?

Was asked the above question in an email. I said i'd ask you guy's and get back to them.

the mistake people make is they cover the whole of the tile you only need to grout the lines sounds daft but people do it.

as Iain says and let it semi dry before cleaning off with plenty of clean water,use a large sponge to do this using a swirling motion and wipe off any residue with a final clean wipe in the one direction.

Sorry, misunderstanding.
He has a tiled bathroom and he keeps getting a stain appear in the grout.
He said this below. Could it be lime scale or hard water area?

"Bathroom, Jim, horrible reddish stain appears every now and again, i guess its some kind of mould, or from the wifes shampoo products, it comes off with a good old scrub, but returns even when the shower hasnt been used"

It's bacterial growth! A good cleaner will get rid of it but it will continue to reappear. Only way to stop it really is to have a good "hygeine" regime.

I asked the question of Ardex tech support about this very problem. They said - As grout is a cement based product and is intrinsically inert, it is not the grout that is going mouldy, it is the soap and body fats that are left on the grout/tile surfaces after showering. A weekly clean with any degreasing agent should eradicate future mould build up.

It is a fact of life that people think showers are self cleaning, unfortunately not so. People clean themselves in showers and unfortunately their "waste" gets left behind, it doesn't all go down the plug hole.

A mate of mine (not in the trade) tried some spray liquid ordered from usa, his grout joints were looking grubby said it worked brilliant, Grout Renu Professional Grout Cleaner. No idea how to do a link, sorry.

HG mould spray is what you need JIM,Should get from most independant tile shops bud.There is also a product on the market called grout seasler you may find this a help also. BRIAN
