grout open times

hello all.i`ve got a splashback to grout tomorrow and was wondering how long grout will remain workable in a bucket.it`s mapai powdered grey grout.don`t know wether to mix it in 2 batches as i`m not the fastest worker or all in 1 go.thanks dave.

How big a Splashback is it, and as Dave says, which grout.

the customer bought the grout and i havn`t seen the packaging yet.the splashback is 4m2.

Although the meterage isn't huge splashbacks can be time consuming, if your using something like Mapei Ultra colour it can prove a nightmare if you don't get it off quick enough, add the quick setting to the amount of pigment and your in a world of trouble, if your unsure of timing then mix it in two halves, washing down the first before you do the second, if it's on different walls it would help to keep all of one mix on one section and the other mix on the rest, just in case there's a slight difference in colour due to mixing ratios.

what sort of tiles are they boldy?, some grab the grout quicker than others.

mixed the grout in 2 batches and the job went well.i think i left the first lot just the right time before for the final polish and it was easy as.the second batch i left longer and it was a struggle to polish off the haze but i got there in the end.thanks to everyone.
