Hi guys,
Thank you for a great forum.
My missus a couple of days ago without asking, decided to demolish some of the tiling and now we quickly need ideas to retile the bathroom. To be honest it really does need updating as its dark.

Its a standard victorian terraced stone-built house and the bathroom is approx 8ft by 7ft. I personally feel the bathroom is very cold during the winter due to it being fully tiled, so i want to reduce the amount of tiling, but without making it look like its gone back to the 80's/90's. Currently it has the standard 3 piece bathroom suite with a standard shower above the bath itself.

My main issues at the moment:-

1. What designs should i go for which has minimal tiling and is not out of date? (I like a warm look, but not dark! - so if colours can be stone or off-white? Maybe some dark tiles for contrast?)

2. How do i go about putting the tiles on? i.e. your tips, so that i don't make a disaster of it. Any video guides?
Thanks

remove the walled tiles and take solid walls right back and dot and dab them...fix tiles direct to boards, plaster skim will not support stone weights

As above. Too slow typing.

hi tiles, your brother will know how to dot and dab the boards if hes in the trade no probs, cant think of any videos to be honest but if your doing a stone job as a 1st job you may want to do soem serious research and also the cost of the tools involved may be worthwhile getting a pro in,

i like the idea of half height stone in areas and painted plaster finsih i have done this a few times and lightens the rooms up well with the mix

right! got it! the one thing i don't understand, is what is "dot and dab"?

Also can you recommend a basic step-by-step video guide to tiling? I want to learn!

I really wouldnt say this is a first time project

Thanks so much guys...where has this forum been hiding all this time? lol.

I know your saying don't do it as a first time project, but the plaster or dot/dab job will be done by brother. I simply want to learn the tiling aspect. I know it's not going to be easy, but its all part of learning. My worry is mainly the corners/curves around sink, although one way i can do this is to take off the sink, so i simply have to do the whole tiles, rather than going around the sink.

yes take the sink off, fair enough wanting to learn but any tiling job done badly looks awful never mind the actual cost of the stone itself and materials involved ,what are your expectations of the end product after forking out lots of cash on stone, materials and tools?
