Yea I had never hated it either, I have to be honest I have always used 10mm on chipboard floors anyway, purely though belt and braces really, but a lad on another site mentioned it and a few other confirmed it. But yes @Plan Tec Tiling it is exactly why I love this place
 
I've done it with 6mm onto floorboards plenty of times, primed, flexi adhesive and mechanical fixed at 300mm centres because of the need to keep heights as low as possible and have never had any issues at all.
 
I always laugh at bathroom floor height build as everyone is worried about the step up when in fact most people have walked up a flight of 8" stairs to get to their bathroom .

You're right . But in a bungalow likelihood is it would be a solid construction floor so tiling direct to screed which would involve minimal height build up. In fact possibly less than a good quality carpet and underlay .
