Still tiling and enquiries are still coming through. Not getting every estimate that I send out but enough to not make me worried I am too expensive. Split my time between tiling and accounting, next 12 months will show me which way i will go re accounts or tiling.

courses dont make you or break you..

your individuality and inner strength make or break you!!!

courses are just formats layed out by individuals...who's to say the format is worthy of recognition?? is it the course tutor, is it the british cscs, is it the individual. courses dont make or break a person. circumstances do that!!

Without a doubt my course has worked for me. Before I did it I attempted to tile my bathroom and it was woeful. The only reason I tried it myself was because I was stunned at the price I was quoted. (£25 per sq m lol) I then decided to have a go at it. I did my course in June and have been pretty steady since then till about 2 weeks ago. Now I can't fit all the work in. I was contacted about 3 jobs today and I'm now booked up for 5 weeks

In my opinion, the course can only give you a sound foundation on which to build a good tiling career, I trained at NETT and the course contents are vast, you will also be shown the pit falls of tiling, but you need to listen. Scince doing the course (about 8 months ago) my tiling has improoved with each job, aswell as using the ways shown to my Darren i have learned a few things myself along the way that can only come with experience. But Darren is always availabile for advice along the way ( and everyone on here )

I'm sure there are tilers on here who have been doing it for many years who are still learning and finding better was of tiling.

When you complete the course dont think thats you (a tiler) you will now be in a position to go out and make a living but it will take you longer as you will still be learning but it takes hard work, Dicepline, dedication the ability to stay positive when things are not going your way.

I reserve my own opinion on how many people who go on 1 or 2 wk courses will actually make it as a tiler but I went looking for work in a local bathroom company the other day and the owner asked how much experience i had (i lied and said 2yrs) she said thats fine as long as your not one of these 2 weeks training and get a van tilers. That tells a story itself.

I think i may have slightly off subject there.

i went to NETT last dec and darren is spot on. If i hadnt had a background in building then i dont know how i would have figured but he is a top trades man and he knows his stuff. i can remember 90% of the stuff shown which means either he was good, i am intelligent or both. id like to think i was intelligent ;0)

seriously, any education is worth it, whether its an apprenticeship, 5 day course, book or word in the ear. it all goes to helping you along the way in life. kepp learning, keep growing, keep going, thats what i say...

iam 38 and spent a couple of days with a good lad on here from liverpool and i will keep on learning till my numbers called. you wont catch the grass gowing under my feet until i'm pushing up the daisies

I did the course at NETT too although I had some experience before that , not that it helped in any way. I was looking for a career change after 16 years with the local council ,(demoralising), and always wanted to work with my hands , so i recently applied for a job at a local bathroom fitters , went for an interview and then had to tile a bay in his showroom. He called me back in to have a chat and offered me the job but wants to train me ,(and happy to pay for relevant qualifications), in other trades, so that i can go in, strip out , tile and refit bathrooms all on my ownsome.....landed on my feet methinks.......and the salary is pretty good, and a van ,that he's happy for me to use for homers , overtime if i want it....takes the worry out of going self employed ,while being trained and gaining valuable experience
