Hi there,

Great website!, newbie here with his first post, I'm after some advice from the more experienced out there.

I've been a contracts manager for over a year with the tiling division of a commercial flooring company and I've now decided to go it on my own.

I've done my training with North East Tiling Training and registered my business so I'm now ready to go. However, I need to obtain the services of a Health & Safety advisor to help me with Coshh/risk assesments as part of commercial tenders and the flooring companys H&S firm want to charge me £60pm every month which I think is far too pricey.

Naturally I'm trying to keep my costs down as I find my feet, so can anyone suggest a more cost effective of doing this or what do you think is a reasonable price to pay.

Thanks for your help.

Tony

You should be able to carry out your own Risk assessments, and the C.O.S.H.H. data sheets for everything you use has to be made available by law from the manufacturers of the goods. So I'd call all the manufacturers of the products you're using to obtain the COSHH data sheets. And then I'd carry out your own risk assessment, or get the first one done professionally and copy their structure of it and then re-work it to suit future tenders.

Hope this helps.

as dan says i would get the first one or two assessments done professionally so that you are aware of what you need.
