just thought I would post this as a warning to those working in dusty environments, use a decent mask and get a vacuum attached to your sanders etc

im off shortly to the hospital to have my regular chest xray

in the late seventies as a young painter I worked for the local council and one of the jobs I had to do was to wirebrush asbestos rainwater goods and line them with bitumen. as a result I now have scaring to the lungs, my lungs dont have full capacity and the asbestos fibres move cutting my lungs and increasing the scars plus the fibres are carcegenic

they will also take a lung sample to see what I have in my lungs, last time it was mainly silica and lead

the leads from using calcium plumbate paint to paint galvanised lamp standards for the council and from rubbing down the old lead based paint, heavy metals remain in your body and are poisinous to your system.the silica is from cement based products and is carcegenic. so I will also be tested for cancer

after they have finished prodding me about, they will do a lung capacity test by sticking me on the treadmill

I hate going and get a letter about every 5 yrs, I have also been told that it has shortened my life expenctancy considerably so theres no point in making too many plans for my retirement

health and safety is there to protect you and others around you, use it each time you do a job no matter how small that job is

Your health is more important than a few quid and an extra half hour on a day

no abnormalities on the xray so ive just got to wait for the rest of the results, they reckon it will be a letter, they will only call me back if they find something, didnt have to do the treadmill today:hurray:

oooh that's good news Mike

so, what now? Back to work or :8: in the garden?

Mike, good news, and please don't ever think your fate is sealed, bodies surprise us in a good way all the time,... really really, the brain follows your instructions, so make sure you give it the right programming constantly, that you are happy, which I can tell you are, healthy and strong enough to cope with any amount of silica, lead, what have you in your body .... strong like a daisy, not weak like a gladioli...
