Height issue - plastic ply the answer?

Job coming up with ufh matting. Sub is 6" t&g floor boards. Originally I was planning to nogging iy all up and relay boards. overboard with 6mm hardi, with slc and 12mm granite to top off.

This would obviously cause quite a step and was wondering what peoples thoughts on this plastic ply are? I can only find old posts? Has anyone ever had problems with it? Is it suitable for job in hand ie. ufh and slc?

Ive never had any experience with it and am a little sceptical but can see TTA acknowledge it, Trade tiler is stocking it now and there arent any obvious horror stories I can find,

Im hoping your all going to say it will be suitable but we'll see?

hi tmt not sure if i have read this wrong but the only thing you are changing is 6mm cement boards to the plastic ply surely the plastic ply is thicker?

the plastic ply is thicker?? Jesus! how thick we talking? I was on the understanding it would be 3mm as opposed to 6mm hardi and 4mm bed of flexi underneath? Or am I having a 5th bottle of bud moment here? lol

plastic ply is very thin kilty maybe 3o 4 mm and its self stickng

I would stick with your original plan and skip the Plastic Ply as I personally don't rate it!

No I haven't used it myself. I would recommend the 6mm backer approach but will be interested in what somebody who has used it has to say.

The beers confusing me now! lol! So I get it that this PP will reduce the height of floor by, my estimation, 5-7mm? as opposed to cement board approach.

Also, I know its suitable for ufh, it should be suitable for latex based slc right?

Would be interested if anyones used it.

They are reasonable costly tiles but its only a small area so Im not sure wether to have a word with customer and see if I can give it a whirl. Obviously footing the bill if all goes belly up. I get excited like a little kid when I get new things to try! lol!

Haven't used it personally, but I have had to replace a couple of floors that the fixer has used it and it's failed....

Was this caused by PP? I think I may have read a previous post of your regarding PP but cant recall what caused the failure??

There is no way on this planet that PP can add structural strength deflection wise to a floor.. no way hosay,,

IMO yes, though with one of them there were other factors that contributed to the failure. For the sake of a couple of mm I would go with the backer boards as I know they work when fitted properly....

Sean, ditch the idea of plastic ply, utter garbage, seen it used in a situation you describe and it was pants!! debonded and the tiles cracked
