Been reading through posts for a couple of days now so thought I had better say hello.... so hello

I have just ripped out my en-suite and was concidering having a go at tilling myself but am having second thoughts now with all the choices in adhesives, grouts, tools etc. The floor is chipboard so would need plying, backboarding or some flexi adhesive.

Think I may have to look for some quotes. Any ideas at what sort of costs I should be expecting? Room is 250cm x 180cm with a shower area to also be tiled W750mm x L1200mm x H232cm and a back wall half height 120cm x 210cm. The tiles we have are 333 x 333 porcelein floor/wall tiles. I know this is probably asking how long is a piece of string but would like to have rough idea if possible. Would be willing to do the subfloor work to keep the cost down. Looking to get it done asap so I hope I can find a decent tiller who can fit me in.

Neil

Hi Neil and welcome to the forum. Give Peter a call at www.uktilingcourses.co.uk and he can either set you up on a course if you fancy it (course costs similar to tilers fee's really - but you can then tile in the future... if it's your thing) or he should be able to fit you up with a reputable tiler local to you. Or checkout FindTrustedTradesmen.co.uk - Find tilers, plumbers, plasterers, electricians, builders, bathrooms specialists and more. and search in the nearest area to you.

Welcome once again.

If you do fancy giving it ago I'm sure we can help list the things you need to get and what you need to do with them.

Thanks Dan

I like the idea of doing the course would set me up for doing the main bathroom in the new year as well. Looking at their site the next date I could make would be end November beginning December...mmm food for thought.

Cheers again

Neil

I'd call mate - that centre books up pretty quick.

Professional Tiling Courses – Wall and Floor Tiling Course is perhaps another one to consider. They do short and long courses for pro and diy and are not too far away from you (looking at a map like though here lol) Tiling Course provider, Chase Tiling Academy in the other direction too do short courses but I think diamond are closer... with uk tiling courses obviously being round the corner I suppose.

You could save money on adhesives and grout and even tiles in some cases after you've done a course too.

You really sure the room is only 250cm x 180cm :6:

Welcome to the forums 🙂

Hi Neil...welcome to the forums..what Dan says makes sense..what you would pay out to have someone do your en-suite and bathroom would cover the cost of the course, you can then say with pride to anyone who will listen that it was you who did the tiling and you will have extra knowledge that can help you earn a few pennies should the need arise....Mark.

And get yourself a recognised qualification with the short courses that we do here at Chase Tiling 😉

All the best 🙂
