Hi all. Been having a good read of some of the posts, had a chuckle at some and have also found some very helpful. Am just starting an NVQ level 2 and am beginning to realise that it was one of the best decisions that I have made ! It's an all female course in Cardiff....before this I used to be a teacher...hence the name, always used to say to the kids that didn't want to go down the academic route to get into a trade...So I'm now finally taking my own advice!! Realise that I have so much to learn so the chances are high that I'll be asking some probably very basic questions for some of you. Loving being able to apply a real lot of the maths that I once taught in school (PE and maths were my thing).
Maybe I should get some of the other girlies who are on the course to join on here too..12 of us in total on the course all with a variety of backgrounds which is good (plumbers, builder, carpenter)

Welcome to the forum Zoe. Send 'em this way. :) There are a few ladies registered on here already and we're thinking about making a ladies-only sub-forum for just you lot too. (find discussion on that in the tiling forum).

Welcome again. Good luck with your NVQ. :)

Thank you all for your welcoming comments. Hopefully the ones on the course that aren't technophobic will sign up.! I've already had my first taste of discrimination down here...was in a builders yard and another customers look when I mentioned I was doing a tiling course (didn't get a chance to say it was an NVQ - so maybe he thought it was one of those 5 day intensive courses that I've seen advertised) I do want the guy to eat his words a bit as my first effort at cutting the tiles around circular objects is damm sight better than the guy that did my entire bathroom!! Fortunately I'm used to the male ego as I used to play sport to a very high level, and the number of guys that would think that they could just beat me when they had only played badminton in the local leisure centre...hmmm wry smile!
