😕 Hi everyone,
This is my very first post on the forum (taken me a while to pluck up the courage).
I'm hoping you knowledgeable guys can come to my rescue and give me some advice for the following -

Just been asked to price for my first floor tiling job consisting of 3 small rooms. Cloackroom downstairs is a concrete floor with porcelain tiles and I'm okay with that one.
The other 2 rooms are upstairs and are chipboard floors. Both rooms are around 2 sq.m each. As the rooms are so small what would you advise for preparation before laying the tiles. Tiles are marble 30cm sq. in both rooms. House is a new build.

Can you guys offer me some assistance?

Thank you.

Hey chill no need to worry everyone helps each other here.

Hi Future, welcome to the forums. The real issue you have is whether the floors are solid or not up stairs. If there is no movement and if it was me I would first lay a decoupling membrane such as Ditra matting or the equivalent that our friend from Wetdecs is always talking about.

i would then tile straight over the top with a flexible adhesive, rapidset normally to slow down moisture absorbtion by the marble and then grout with a flexible grout.

if the floors are not solid, i.e. they flex up and down then you would need to strengthen them by overboarding. i really can't see that though as the area is so small.

Hi again everyone,

Many thanks for your help and kind words to welcome me to the forum. I look forward to seeking your advice again in the future - probably sooner rather than later!!!!
I'm just finishing off my very first paid job - expensive porcelain wall tiles in a shower room. I'l have to take some photos and put them on the forum for some feedback from all you professionals out there.

Thanks again and nice to 'meet' you all.
