It's a lesson learnt that's for sure! As the jobs 190m2 of floor and was meant to be 35m2 on walls but this changed to 67m2 on walls with feature walls too it completely through my schedule out so had to try find help, better to do it myself in the future I guess!

Works gone absolutely mental the last 2 months and I was thinking about taking on a labourer but to also learn the trade but to learn how I expect things done! That way I should have a reliable and decent tiler (not being big headed lol).

Thanks again for the opinions, I'm going to talk to the customers and project manager tomorrow to see if they will let him come back to repair the work (should he agree too) and then go from there, his gap from the tiles to the ceiling are as big as 15mm in places which is also quite an eye sore.

I'd be thinking damage limitation, don't bring him back, you've got a valid reason with the customer making it clear they won't have him. Do what Gary says and polish it back.
I'd be afraid of further antagonising the client by going against their requests and bringing a numpty back.
In the long run you'll be doing the 'tiler' a favour anyway because he will learn the hard way to up his game!

Haha I'm sorry to appear to belittle your predicament mate,
But gee whizz, that's truly special! Hahaha
I feel for you I really do, won't go into specifics but I know EXACTLY how you feel.
Just wipe your mouth, and move on!
Money's not everything, but your rep is!

Thank you 3 fall lol, been rather lucky the customers and project manager have been fine about it and haven't a problem with me over it as they know it will be sorted. It's first job I've done for the company so rather annoying but the finish will be perfect when I'm done! The company builds hauf houses so would be nice to get offered future work!

Whitebeam they are 900x315 porcelanosa tiles, customers had chosen 600x300 from them but got sent these and they decided to keep them lol.

I once had a guy make a mess of a load of vinyl flooring he was doing for me. My kid could have done a better job! Cost me nearly £2k to put right but I've more than made it back as 3 years down the line I'm still working for the same builder nearly every month. Sort it out yourself and move on fella

Does it depend on how you have contracted someone (the tiler) to do the work?
If you have sub contracted the work out to him then I can see that the work is not up to an acceptable standard and he should be given the chance to put it right and not paid for it until it is right.
But if he is hired as a temporary employee (paid per hour) then is it not the hirers responsibility to supervise the work to some extent so that the standard required could be achieved?
I don't really know the answer so just adding questions to the discussion.

I would note though that the tiling here is not what most tilers are used to - large format tiles fixed at (I guess) 22.5 degrees to the horizontal and needing to be cut around alcoves. If I was still tiling I would have loved it as a challenge but would have had to get a new cutter or two. I would also be charging a premium rate for doing it. So I hope the job was described well to the tiler before he took it on.

Some of the cuts to the alcove might be polish-able back to a good line although one looks to be short already. Those to the ceiling would need replacing though to get an acceptable ceiling joint (unless it is the ceiling running up and down!).

Some mixed views now I see, yes I took a gamble as you put it but regardless poor work is poor work? My customers are over the moon to be honest, I apologised for the work that had been done and they have no issue with me they just want it corrected which is understandable.

Be interesting to see if any other mixed views come across on the situation, as I said I'd like to handle it the best and correct way possible.

Thank you
You can't tell how good someone is before actually try them. I had similar problem when I used a guy to grout after fitting while I was on other job. At 11pm my phone were ringing and my client said the grout hasn't been cleaned off properly and he is opening the restaurant 8am.i needed to get out of bed and fix it. I paid the lad upfront. So after that, I don't hire anyone other than demolition. It was 10ish years ago. No need headache, and no time to repair after somebody else.
