This is just a shot in the dark though.
So many tiles, so hard to judge.

Yeah, I did think of that but thought it might look a bit naff and people would keep stubbing their toes against against it.

min are only about half inch behind the cupboard doors mate never had that problem... but if it does happen... people adjust lol

I usually recommend going for a contrast if you really want to keep the original tiles. i.e remove tiles nearest the unit and fit same size different colour e.g. dark brown.

Personally I would take all the tiles up and replace with new. You will find some really smart new designs that will compliment your new units better. It does not look like a big area so wont need too many square metres of tiles - most of us would quote to lift and re-tile in one day or you could do it yourself in a weekend.
