Hi,
I need some advice as I've been to a customers house to find that someone has tiled a polished beige limestone floor and has used a fila colour intensifier sealant but, the tiles have gone patchy/striped effect and they want to know if I can rectify it. Does anybody know of some stone restoration stripper I can use or will they need to get a professional stone contractor to strip and reseal the floor?
Any help would be much appreciated

The funny thing is I know you get different shades but I noticed some were a dull limestone and some look polished. The dull ones look like they have been sealed fine. The tiles are all dry aswell.

Are there any left over tiles? may be worth looking at that 1st to see if its to do with the stone and not fixing sealing errors.

you can make polished finish to honed finish using polisher and different grade polishing pads, but some times , if tile surface is uneven the polishing pad does not touch deeper spots to take shine away

Not sure if they have got any spare tiles I will find out tomorrow but how can I tell if they are faulty?

Give one a coat of the same sealer and see if the problem happens again. I reckon there was some form of protection on the tile that wasnt cleaned off before sealing but I am not as well up on stone than some other members on here. I am sure they will be along tonight to have their say

i worked with natural stone for 10years. (marble, limestone, granite etc. ) it's bit hard to find the problem, when you can't touch the tile or see it in real 🙂))))). Still think would be good to try polisher with P220 or P400 polishing pad, on stripy tile 🙂

It looks like excess sealer left on the tiles.. hence the wet look..... also was there foam packer strips between the tiles..?..

this looks like some one has used a large roller to seal tiles and only put seal on to one part of the roller leaving uneven seal stip floor back start again.make sure to use seal evenly

bit off topic i know but have you checked those grout lines ....is there any adhesive visible combed to the floor at base? just looks deep and ultra dark imo!!!

sorry for being pesimistic lol

Each tile will have different levels of porosity... the shiny parts are dried on sealer that should have been buffed off... the stripes IMO are residue from the packer skips between each tile and a wash with grimex would have sorted that...

Just my take on it 🙂

IMG_1472.JPGHere's another pic I hope this help. It's so strange that the other tile by the side is not polished affect!

It looks as if that tile has been missed whilst sealing, but i will deffo say that, that is excessive sealer on the surface.

ok than, this pic. tels more. looks like wrong sealer was used 🙂. what tile finish suposed to be?? honed or polish?

Do you think the customer needs a specialist for this job and does anybody know anybody who can sort it in the Birmingham area?

I agree with Dave on all accounts. It has to be some residue or etching caused by the packing vs moisture must have effected the stone and there is way excess sealer in places.

Yes, that needs a floor refinisher to fix unless you own the tools. If I was there I would use a fine and very fine grit wood floor sanding screen with a white pad on a swing machine (mono 175 rpm) or diamonds (200-600 grit) to do a light grind in place. Then 5x powder polish. Have this done after the grout is installed because if the joints are filled full the process will make the floor very smooth and easy to care for later.
