Hi all,

ive tiled a bathroom with slate effect porcelain that did not need sealind as it was not polished, however after grouting there is a cloudy dusty film remaining on the tiles. I have tried dry brushing it off and it worked a bit but wasn't great. Ive tried cleaning with acid cleaner (grout residue remover) but when that fried it left another cloudy dusty residue. I cant seem to get the tiles back to there origonal apperance :(

i was wondering it i could use a sealer to bring it back to a slate black colour or would this make things worse.

please help.

I need help on this aswell, did a kitchen floor in porcelain and the dusty film keeps coming back, thought the Fila residue extra strong remover would get rid of it but it comes back everytime. The customer wants me to go and seal it tomorrow but I'm worried it'll just seal the crap in,this floor has cost them a grand in labour and materials so I want to get it right for them.
How can I make the film go away and bring back the natural colour of the tiles, need to know asap cause I'm going back first thing tomorrow

never had that problem either ...try talking to tile manufacturer or grout tech line....dave...

Certain types of porcelain should be sealed with a porcelain impregnator...if you wet the tile and then wipe it and it stops wet for a while then it needs sealing before you grout........

grout can lock into the pores of porcelain and then be a swine to remove......

Asked at Topps and they say not had a problem with that tile before, everything they told me I already knew, used Bal porcelbond and Bal wide joint flexi grout.

Every job I've done ends up with a film over it after I've used my washboy but half an hour later it can be just wiped off,its definately not going away this time the bugger.

If its a polished porcelain, fila extra strong residue remover should have sorted it....apply neat with cloth leave for 10 mins and then scour with softest grout clean up pad.......then wash with clean water.....if this dosn't work then use Bal Epoxy resin remover...but test it on a tile first to see it dosnt mealt it !!

BAL Epoxy Residue Remover is a non-hazardous, biodegradable formula for quick and effective removal of cured epoxy residues, such as epoxy grout from tiles.
  • Removes cured grout
  • Easy to apply
  • Quick and effective
  • Non-hazardous formula
hope this helps....Gaz
