would maybe wait a while before making the leap,in the last 6 months my prices have dropped to get the work and even then i am losing out on more than my fair share of work,not the best of times especially if you have a lot of overheads

Its not easy so be careful. Experience does count at this time but there is a lot of under cutting with price at the mo, dont know about your area e.g 37m2 of slate some one did it for £600? I'm established with references, portfolio but it isn't helping its a good thing my company is into renovations which therefore offers other opportunities.
