To put you all in the picture i am not a tiler to trade.
I have emigrated to Australia and have been tiling for 4 months (easy to get a job here they are desperate) i only did a basic 1 week course in Scotland bought all my tools before i came over then got a job with a guy who apparently has been tiling for 20 yrs so i told him exactly what i did in the UK and said i wanted to learn the trade with a tradesman so he said i would be working with him and i would do cuts for the first couple of weeks the he would work me into tiling, the first day he asked me to lay some tile thought i done well, from then i was laying tiles on my own. I have now left this guy and am tiling on my own so will posting for help when i get stuck if that is OK?

been tiling many yrs now and with all the new products coming out you are always still learning....lol.....

jeff: do you find the standard of tiling over there much lower than in england? I spent a year travelling around the east coast of australia, doing tiling for cash, and i was absolutly disgusted at the standard of some of the 'professional tilers' there.

Definitely Dave the guy i was tiling with was a joke and he had been tiling for 20yrs.

I have only started tiling since i got here but my tiling was better than his but he was only interested in quantity not quality he said to me when i was tiling remember it is not your house because i was trying to get it to neat.
