hi there! the new lad could do with some advice!

hi there, my name is stu and i've decided to join your excelent forum after reading it whilst looking for some hints and tips. I've got to have a lot of tiling done at home as i'm having new kitchen,bathroom and en suite fitted. my wife wants me to pay somone to do it but i'm going to do it myself, and the money i save invest in a course at chase tiling acadamy. I know it seems silly to do the tiling then the course but unfortunatly i'm running out of time to finish the house. could any one please give me some tips on setting up my bathroom walls as this is where i'll be starting first.

hi stu welcome to forums.....my advise would be to do your course first..because once you do the course you will constanly pick faults with the work you did beforehand....dave..

cheers for the advice dave! unfortunatly due to my day job i'm looking to do my course at weekends but my weekends are being taken up at the moment with decorating so i'm in a bit of a catch 22 if you get what i mean.

Couldn't agree more, you could waste a lot of time and money using the wrong materials with the wrong techniques and bodging it. If you really intend to do the course, do it first.

I have to agree with the lads above I'm afraid, I don't see the point in tiling your bathroom then doing a course. If you tile your bathroom first then why bother with the course.

hi Stu,

here is what you will do,

1, tile all your bathrooms
2, do the course and then guess what, you will rip it all back off again and re do them.

iv'e tiled to a diy level for the last few years doing my own and family's bathrooms, i regarded myself as a no bad tiler, anyone who commented on my work where usually quite impressed, so i decided to do the course and since I've been back and making a living from it i can barely look at my work.

save yourself some money and time and wait till you have done the course.:wink_smile:

Hi Stu..welcome to the forums...can i ask..are you moving house in the near future ? if not there's nothing to hurry for really is there, do the course first as you'll regret doing the tiling first...good luck either way..Mark.

Send your wife on the course while your at work, as my wife would tell me what i was doing wrong, this way your sorted.

Stu, welcome to the forum. I understand how you feel, I know a guy who felt the same way and he found that when he waited till he could do a course he found when he waited to do the course he had a much better angle to go at.

If you can wait. If you can't - just do a temporary fix and do it right once and once only.
