hi guys,

I am a 'diyer' and have a question re: tiling in a shower enclosure. I have old plaster, not too well adhered, which I guess needs to be removed, whats the best background to install for tiling on. (can I even tile onto brickwork if prepared properly? I could do with the extra 25mm of width ;-).

thanks in advance

In my opinion mate i would remove old plaster and then dry-wall it using the dot & dab method it then needs tanking (waterproofing) the reason i say this is because i have yet to see brickwork that is level across its width and vertically if yours is ok then im sure there is a product that you can use.
Im sure someone else will post with other info i hope mine is helpfull.

hi matty,

thanks for the reply, I just removed all the old plaster and you're right, the walls out of plumb quite a bit, over 25mm top to bottom! So I'll dot and dab as you suggest, I've already bought aquapanel board for other two walls of shower enclosure (they're studwork) so i'll use the same for the brickwork wall. Didn't think I need to tank though with aquapanel? (Its a standard shower enclosure not a wet room).

thanks again
phil

your right phil aquapanel doesnt need to be tanked just make sure that you use the correct screws and jointing tape etc

hope all goes well.
