Hi

Not really a wetroom question but more about tanking products- went to get a BAL WP1 kit - ended up with the Homelux matting and BAL Rapidset courtesy of Topps Tiles (long story)

4mm notched trowel to apply adhesive and pushed matting well into the adhesive bed - left it overnight and the matting appears to be attached but I can get a fingernail under an edge of the matting and pull away from adhesive - takes a similar amount of pull as removing a printer label from it's backing paper...which is worrying as I'm just about to start hanging tiles .. the adhesive is rock solid to the substrate but just doesn't appear to be as strong to the mat.

Has anyone used this combination of matting & adhesive before?

What consistency did you mix the adhesive and how long after application of adhesive did you apply the matting.

You would have been better to use a normal setting adhesive probably.

WHY??..

Machine mixed- bit stiffer than margarine -and applied to walls immediately and matting directly onto it ..

Sounds like your adhesive wasn't wet enough....i have used the homelux and ditra mattings no probs with bal adhesives and mapei's etc....usually if it hasn't stuck , it is either too dry a mix or it has skinned before you covered it up.

The adhesive should be fairly wet and covered as quick as possible, i use a 3mm mosaix trowel ans then a steel float to spread the matting out, ensuring it flattened well and no air pockets..

Thanks for your answers - the adhesive has a recommendation of 4:1 on the packet which I tried to follow... on your installs did you try to see if it was peelable off? not having done one before I was expecting more resistance although with tiles present the biggest force would be downward shear rather than away from the wall.- Don't really know if I'm being too fussy or not

Just tried a test on the corner I pulled away with ready mixed flex to see if there is a better adhesion with another adhesive.

& I'd actually used a short length of 4"x2" to press the matting home and make sure there were no air bubbles

I gives a bit more time to trowel the whole area and then prat around trying to get all the air pockets out...I ain't the quickest tiler around yet...
