hot day,poor addy !!

Hello all,
today i was on a floor with 600x300 polished porcelain.
I was there on labour only,well now the stuff i was using was larsen flexible rapid set,i couldn't believe how quick it was going off !! it can also be used as a grout !! YUK. setting in the bucket within 10 mins,grout after 2 hours it says on bag,should be 30 mins!! very bad to work with,every scoup out of the bucket was different !! i had to tilt the trowel at different angles all day !:mad2:

theres nothing worse than using rapid-set on a scorching day,especially in a bathroom thats acting like a greenhouse lol:lol:

Yeah, had the same a few weeks back, I wasn't knocking up big buckets but 1 went off as I was walking up stairs, slight exaggeration, but it was quick

That will be a bit slower and a hell of a lot nicer to work with.

I had a similar problem when doing that pool surround, so was glad to be using Keraquick for the same reasons that you mention :lol::lol:. Just mix smaller buckets, but it is a pain.

When I was in the South of France earlier this year.....Oh! did I mention this earlier.

Anyway we were using Mapei 24 hr adhesive and you could walk on it in 2 hours!
And I got a lovely tan on my head, not to forget the mozzie bites.

Whitebeam - one of the few adhesives I've had problems with!

A few years ago they sold it as a exterior use adhesive - it wasn't and I had to replace a patio!

did a 200 metre shop floor last night using larsen rapid set.only mixed small buckets and no exaggeration,could only lay 1 tile before it went off.deliberatly mixed it thin yet it set hard after minutes.wouldnt mind but it was the middle of the night and not even that warm.without doubt the worst addy ever used.even the texture didnt seem right when mixed,oh and it stinks badly.all the polymers and that im guessing

Joe, I had the same problem today, It was the first time I had used "Arc" Adhesive , made in Ireland, Has anybody come across it before?
Nice enough but pretty fast

I use Larsen a lot, it is nothing like Mapei gear to work with and takes a while to get used to but its fine when you know what its like, the standard id a lot nicer to use. I was using the rapid on a floor today, you have to get everything ready and cut your tiles in dry and then move like mess off of a shovel. Also it does make going back to Keraquick a dream

I was using standard set dunlop flexi today and its a joy to use, even in a very warm house !!!
Speaking of Larsen, I met davy G this evening.
He uses a lot of Larsen and has a bro in Larsen.
Nice chap he is too.

used some ultra rapid set and had no problems.larsen is rubbish.why would anyone need it to go off so fast.didnt even bond properley

Keep a bucket of water ready for mixing the rapid set and put a bag of ice cubes in to it , it will give you more time with the rapid set, when mixing in warm weather the water that comes out of the tap has a warm feel to it especially an outside tap, remember to run tap for a while first. Not being smart , just a little tip.

I use larsen, but i cant compare as ive not used anything else, ive only had one bucket go off hard quick, I tend to mix small amounts at a time, half a black bucket. Also I neve clean buckets out afterwarss, i just throw away at end of day, At £1 a bucket i cant be bothered to spend time cleaning them, just throw away.

There seems to be a professional range at larsen but who who else uses the stuff apart from us pros?
I have used nice larsen before and loved the CTA so it's not all bad,
I once supplied a big job with pallets of the stuff with no probs either.
As someone said too much hardener, sack the hard guy larsen... :smilewinkgrin:
