Hi all.

Just a quick quest.

I was asked today how long after skimming plasterboard can tiling commence, i was unsure thought u guys would know?

also are there any adavantages to skim the board first? i thought tiling could be done straight onto pboard?

Thanks

tile on to the board do not skim it if you do then you need to wait 4 weeks to tile it

also plasterboard is a much better surface to tile on also it holds more weight 😛ete

best to tile to plasterboard as this can hold 32kg's of weight per m2 against 20kg's per m2 if skimed....

once the skim as dried out about 2to 3 days on board it will be ok to tile on , any moisture left in the board will dry out through the back. and yes it is better to skim on to plain board but it is not always that simple.when we go in to do the skimming a lot of customers have not picked the tiles and are not sure wether to go dado height or floor to ceiling so it is easier to skim:thumbsup: all the walls

I priced up a job the other day that had only been plastered the day before. Explained drying times and customer was quite happy, booked me in to do the job in just over 3 weeks from now.
Phoned me yesterday morning to cancel as the plumber has told her it only needs between 4-5 days to dry, he is tiling it today.

(full bond onto brick)

Brilliant isnt it.

I worked for a builder and he wanted me to tile day after. It still had terrible damp patches. Explained 3-4 weeks etc, he agreed but wanted it doing.

I refused until all damp patches had gone, 4 days later, still not right i know but...........
