How long?

Hi guys

I've been working on some external steps on and off over the past few weeks and have finally been caught out by the weather. I had used some render on the treads with sand and rapid cement but today I got caught out by some rain and it all got wet. Am I going to have to wait for it to be bone dry again before I can use tile adhesive on it?

Yeah there's no choice eh. Right bigger that, it's been going on for weeks now and it's one of those, the whole job has run over by four months and I'm getting it in the neck even though I only got involved at the start of the year. Any solutions?

Explain politely it's not your fault and why and explain it can't be done when wet. Discuss a solution and listen and emphasise with the client. Don't promise anything you can't keep to.

Works for me usually lol.

Personally I wouldn't do any outside work until the weather improves. The temperature would be my concern.....

might be worth making a make shift tent over it if that's possible but yes you need to let it dry out

Temperature is okay down here at the moment, been between 8-11 degrees for the best part of a week. That's was what stopped work for a bit last week when we had that cold snap and had to stop. I'm gonna explain that to the contracts manager. He's a sound bloke but thing is it is my fault. I didn't cover it up. And it's a black mark against my name with the company. Plus about ten subbies are not getting paid until its all done (long story) so basically I feel like a bit of a prat!!

You need to talk to the boss and just explain . lucky you are not doing commercial down here they have penalty rates and from memorie they start at 5 grand a day if you hold up progress or other contractors

Yeah I know. I did say at the beginning that it's not ideal but if it has to be done then now then we'll work around it so it's n

If you can make some sort of tent over the area you may be able to get some sort of blower going to try and dry them out quicker but it depends on the situation 'best to get them dry as if they are holding moisture that will stop the adh getting a bond

Cheers jay. I told the contracts manager yesterday and he just shrugged and said its the weather mate, not your fault eh. So at least he's not in a flap about it. Just gonna leave it covered over, gonna be raining down here till next week anyway apparently. Cheers everyone
