how to stop the ghastly mildew??

I have seen Orange/pink discolouration during site visits up and down the UK and this is due to microbial activity within body fats deposited on the surface of shower gels, soaps etc

As you say a regular clean with proprietary household cleaners with a 1:1 dilution of bleach:water used occassionally should keep this away.

But mildew will require a different solution i.e. increased ventilation

hg cleaner is also very good for cleaning mildew.

As above, but are you licking your finger to smooth the bead of sealant? the bacteria in your mouth will soon turn it black. Try using a little water and a dish washing liquid or you can buy a liquid for the job. Might not be enough to stop it but it will be a hell of a lot cheaper than fitting a fan so I should think its worth a try.

What is hg cleaner?

I will make a note and get some of the Dettol brand of Mounls and Mildew cleaner.

Could neat bleach work?

Not licking finger to smooth down sealant, that would be gross!!!!
