Hello one and all,
I'm deeply concerned about the new tiles in my bathroom. I'm having the entire room renovated, using 12mm Travertine
on Marmox boards.
There are huge voids behind many of the tiles, and areas where there is clearly no adhesive at all. I can see the raw back
surface of the tiles, and the clean fibre cement mesh of the boards. It appears to be dot and dabbed. There's no evidence
the adhesive was trowelled onto anything.
The gaps are so large, I can push a 30cm ruler (5cm wide) in behind the tiles by up to 28cm in various parts of the bathroom.
The ruler can be even wiggled between some tiles, and you can see the clear plastic through the presently ungrouted joints.
When the ruler's removed, you can still see the Marmox through the same ungrouted space: there's little adhesive to obscure
the view. The same applies at many joints across the room.
The tiler insists this is perfectly normal and safe. I can't find anyone who agrees. In fact, everything I read and researched
ahead of this refit, and everyone I've spoken to since discovering these problems, says it's dangerous.
My son is just 5 years old and his safety is paramount. I do not want tiles falling on him, or anyone else.
Your advice on what to do next would be hugely appreciated. I've attached some pictures for reference.
Thanks in advance,
