Thanks for replies.
The primer was an LTP primer which I was sold with a Satin Sealer. Both totally wrong for the job. It may well have got into areas on the tiles and stubbornly stayed there - LTP assumed that as that may be the case adding more stripper and allowing it to absorb into the tile the primer would disolve. Maybe in this case the Lithofin wax off might be better as it's a much thinner liquid.
Timeless - Yep I know they're like blotting paper. These stains which look like slightly darkened wet patches are a direct result of the priming and stripping. I used white cloths and an emulsifying pad when stripping so there was no other tinting.
I have yet to grout them and they are called Myra Honed Limestone.
Any more wisdoms most welcome.
