Really fed up with work at the moment is it just me or does everyone feel like this this time of year ?

I've had a proper wobble just recently Gary, really hated getting up in the mornings, I blamed it on having the post holiday blues. I do think it's that time of year though, dark nights, cold. Roll on the spring.

I felt fed up this morning when I told a builder to stick his job after he called me a muppet for refusing to fit 25kg porcs to skimmed walls, this was after I'd told him on no accounts skim the walls....

I think that's part of the reason I've felt a bit **** recently, feels like I'm constantly dealing with fookwits at the mo.

im on nights next week for 4 days in hull , work is work, should have been taking the ball and chain out for her birthday ,on the 14th she will have to wait now

I'm not fed up with work... work is good and loads of it ..

It's just other things that have got me down , well it's mainly the wife's health .. only a couple know but she has been diagnosed with MS ( on top of her chrohns ) and last week got the nod she has to go onto medication for the MS .. so it has stressed us out some and one of the reasons i had to stop Admin duties on here.. anyway .. not about me just my reasons like gary for feeling not so good about things but a holiday would be good..

gaz.. take a break if funds allow it mate.. a holiday can make things seem better.. works for me most times any way.. but when work get's you down then you need to find a compromise.

your right there bri, never had so many time wasters, idiots, cancle jobs dimwits, stupid bloody customers just latley, must be the season for it..

its not just you gary........crap summer, just seems like one long winter.....take a couple of days off mate, recharge the batteries...

Sorry to hear your down mate.
It doesn't seem to be getting any easier does it work wise.
I finding its getting a bit too stressful lately. Customers phoning all hours and not giving a stuff if you have a life, jobs cancelling and then magically expecting you to re book.
Not to mention the doing estimates, cash juggling and all the running around.
But each year i find you have a duff month where you wonder how your going to get through it, you don't concentrate and your eye goes off the ball a bit and then that buggers the next job, even something daft like not ordering up adhesive or not putting tools in the van can really **** things up.
You know your mates won't understand if their not self employed, they'll tell you you work too hard, but you have to do it.
Anyway give it a month or two and things will be feel fine again i'm sure.
The one thing you can gaurenttee is everyone here will understand.
And sorry to hear about your lot Dave. I'm single and find life stressful enough, i hope things work out for you.

To add, i'm actually joining forces with a bathroom fitter i know, we both helped build each others houses, and we work really well together.
He's been saying the same as you guys, and we both work too much on our own, so now we can both moan to each other, i'm really looking forward to learning some new skills!

The joys of being self employed hey.. Some customers treat trades like door mats..

I am one of those take no prisoners tradies but it still doesn't stop some customers taking the pi$$.. water off a ducks back most times but we would be liars if we said it does not get to us at times..

Work to live and not live to work... remember that guys..

It's the pricks who change their minds or add on extras, then kick off when you tell them it'll cost more.

I've told more customers to 'f' off this year than in 20 years!
I got thanked by the builder for telling one customer, he said he'd been dying to say it for weeks!

yep, got told today that ufh is going down in bathroom floor, but apparently I'll throw that in (inc backer boards and slc 12m2) as a "goodwill gesture".....as if!

No way!
I bet they were suprised when you said no................you did say no didn't you!!!!!!!?
I don't think £500's worth of labour, matting, boards and leveller is too much too ask!

oh it was a supermassive *** kicking NO! bugs, along with the skim I won't tile onto. I actually came to an arrangement with builder to strip shower area that's to be tiled and replace with p/board and tanking, he gets the gear and I'll do that foc, but the floor is an add on by customer and that'll be charged at full whack:smilewinkgrin:

I seem to be getting jobs where I have a lack of control and working for others who have a lack of knowledge, I do stand back and ponder sometimes and consider my future with some of these idiots.

mmmmm, what has caused me the most stress and i'm not gonna start talking about the dreaded 'Anhydrite' word god i've done enough already!!!!
I personally love flooring, and with this screedthe future is gonna be a real pain in the bott, i'm on a 63m2 slate floor at the moment and i'm using Creative Impression GBTA adhesive, it cost the customer wait for it £700+ in adhesive, thats no Ditra just adhesive. Plus its really weird stuff to use, so if is the best adhesive around for these screeds then i don't want to play anymore!!

got enough work but like all the above its waiting on payments dealing with numptys ,I definitely need some sunshine

have you still got your apt in Egypt Gary? get yourself over there for a break if you have:thumbsup:

Still got it Doug but my missus wont go out there with the baby as she doesnt trust the egyptian drivers so I have only been there once this year for a weekend last January with my Dad ,I booked up for florida next august and will need to get out to Egypt in January to pay the maintenance fees and organise a new key holder

ive used gbta never again , goes off far to quick, all though ive heard they have improved the pot life of it , the one i used was about 15 mins if that

The pot life was fine, very much like a cement based rapid set, mind you it hasn't been warm! So maybe i had the new stuff, it just seemed impossible to get a mix that felt right.
If you mix it just a little bit too thick it spreads about as easily as the old Bal epoxy grout! Yak!

im putting it down to being winter time which i hate anyways and a 2 bob thruppny bit hoore customer whos attempting to put me through the mill with court threats lol...so glad i got that out

ive had a very busy year but this job right at the end has been a big financial loss for me so feeling peed off atm......no doubt itll pick up for the better soon

Hi Bugs you do know that gypsum adhesive isnt included in bs5385 and its why the major adhesive brands dont have one in the uk market and schluter wont recommend sticking ditra down with it ,i dont know enough about this type of adhesive to comment on if it is good or not, I also called a company called TRAMEX the other day who make damp meters they say that the CM test method or" carbide bomb test" doesnt work on anhydrite and gives a false reading ,it does work on hemihydrite but i dont know the difference between the 2 ,it all very confusing as i was at schluter on tuesday with whitebeam and they said that you can use ditra at 2% water content over anhydrite using p51 primer and ardex flexible adhesive which i very much doubt and I will be ringing them for a technical data sheet to confirm this

I know what you mean Gary, the last few months have been the best and worst of times for me. I just can't be bothered at the moment with anything. Meetings are the worst, today I cancelled another one, and sent someone else to it, he rang me and said what a total waste of time that was. That's my life most days total waste of time listening to crap about programmes, health and safety, risk assessments, pat testing, datum lines, finished floor levels, logistics, ppe, and insurances. Every single contract is on delay, or at a standstill, I get up early and its dark and cold and finish work and there's no change its still dark and cold.

The pub is a good idea, but I don't think I would stop drinking till they dragged me out of there.

Lynn
