Discuss Is this grouting acceptable? in the America Tile Forum / Advice Board area at TilersForums.com.

Hi all,

I've had a nightmare with my patio, one issue after another. The latest one is the grouting, I think it's shocking but would like to hear your opinions to see if I'm expecting too much on quality of finish and also want I can do to fix it, would it be a regrout or can I sandpaper to smooth off? I'm still owing for the job and have asked the tiler to address it before I settle the invoice but he is blaming my family for going on the tiles for the issues. None of us stepped on the grout and the only time we went out while it was done was to offer a brew.

Thanks,

Will

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your rreplies I'm not sure I want my tiler to try and fix if he thinks this is acceptable. Is removing the grout and regrouting the best only solution then or can another layer of grout be laid on top?
Best solution is to take it out and regrout it, if you add on top there is a risk of it coming loose in the near future.
If you are withholding money from the tiler by law you have to give him a chance to fix his work, to me it looks like the grout was mixed to wet and washed off too soon, rushed basically.
