I really dont think money by the way of a tip, can compare with listening to the client expressing how happy they are with the work you have just completed.
Having just had such a phone call from a recent client whose job was plain ceramics and slate effect porcelanto floor tiles in the bathroom. I took my time to give the customer an end result that not only would they be happy with but also one that I am happy with. They took the time to say how impressed they were......I would rather have phone calls or letters like that anyday over a £20 tip. My chest is puffed out and i am glowing with pride for a job i love.
Sometimes you can go through months of turning out work for domestic and commercial without so much as a thank you and then one day you get a glowing reference like my call today....It makes it all worthwhile

It's always nice to get those calls as the biggest buzz is knowing it's going to be looked after. Whenever I return to a house that I have worked on previously it's always nice to see it in the same state as you left it and heartbreaking to see it trashed. I've decorated places that have marks on the walls before I have even left:thumbsdown:

I went to a job just an hour ago to sort out a bathroom refit. I refurbished pretty much the whole house last year and they now have the budget to finish it. The place I must say was in very good order even though it is occupied by 4 students! It was nice to just see them relaxing and enjoying the space I had created. The owner (mother to one of the students) was sitting their saying she is quite jealous of the house and wouldn't be opposed to kicking them out and living there herself. I had to laugh when they brought up the subject of removing a wall that I had re-built so they could have an HD projector on it, the wall is perfect to give the best picture and they were scared about asking me the possibility of removing it because they knew how much effort went in to it. It little things like that, that cheer me up.
