It's all coming out Dan, back to screed then start again. SLC, insulation boards, new mat, SLC again, then tile it properly. Turned into a bit of a job seeing as I was only here to replace half a dozen loose tiles!

Nice turn out.

Very wise move to replace the heating cable. Might be worth keeping any smaller mats and not throw them away, make some demonstration boards or areas in your local tile shop with it maybe or something like that? Will last a while I'm sure just make them aware that it'll fail at some point.

well that is a total mess, BUT IT HAS NOT BROKEN ANY LAWS ! which is amazing there should be a LAW against this ?

come to germany. we have laws against everything. at 2002 it cost more than 5000euro´s and a half year course to get the right for opening a own tiling service (meisterbrief). one year later you need nothing and get 2 years tax freedom. and in future i think i have to pay if i don´t educate apprentices because of my meisterbrief.

I don't think a plumber would have done this, too much adhesive used, or was it grout?

I'm really not sure! It looked like adhesive mixed with sand, whoever did it must have used tons and tons of the stuff! It's happily sat in a skip now, where it belongs. I'll do some progress pics as I replace it.
