JOTM thread.

I am extremely proud of my "Winners badge" and wouldn't like to see it devalued by opening it up to all and sundry. However I would like to see each months winning entry given a small write up in the main forum, including the pictures so everyone gets a feel for the high standards needed to win.

Reading all the posts my view settled on showing the results in the main forum only, so I'm with Tommy on that, but perhaps not just the winner but the top three entries, so that the variety of styles and jobs is shown. This could be really inspiring to everyone...and give the 2nd and 3rd place well deserved credit, too..:hurray:

Like i said on page 1 of this thread, we cannot put pics into a thread in the main forum if it is posted in the arms via attachments, as th en a viewer will need access to the arms to see them.


So to do this then ALL entries pics must be submitted from their albums and the pics must be publicly viewable.

This is why we have not been able to do this so far..

Are you all able or know how to load pics to an album in your profiles..?

You are suggesting that amateur tilers pitch their work against professional entries?

Daz.. how do you know as a tiler that all entries are from pro tilers or amateurs ..?

Just because a member who entered is in the arms , this does not say they are pro's or amateurs..

Can you define what counts as being a pro please.. and what counts as being an amateur..?

if you load pics form an album and your album becomes full when you delete the pic in the album that will also remove the JOTM pics or am i wrong?

Yes.. but we can increase album allowance..

open it up to all members and let all members vote

some of the tiling by non arms members has been exceptional for an amatuer

whats it matter if a less experianced tiler wants to enter their work. why are we being so precious about this , the idea is we encourage tilers to work to a high standard and want to be a part of this forum. the best way to do this is to give them an oppurtunity to jotm, if they know it will be seen by us it will encourage them to do their best work

main forum will be a positive but it would need a lot more control as there will be a lot of posting portfolio pictures

Mark, we have already agreed that "constructive advise" is not permitted in JOTM. How do you provide "good advise to steer in the right direction" without contradicting forum rules?

its a good oppurtunity for those entering to be seen by potential customers

if someones come on here as they are not sure if they have a decent tiler they will be able to see what the job should look like

Okay, my view was that Arms members were tradespersons that are promoting tiling as one if their trades. I have made the assumption that Arms members understand the setting out procedure.

I have made the assumption that Arms members that choose to vote for JOTM are passionate about good setting out and good tiling practice as well as first class finish.

I see the General Forum as members that have not yet decided to apply for Arms access or that are genuine DIY'ers, the latter falling into the bracket of being here to find answers rather than offer answers.

I guess (in my mind) it's all about the criteria that the voter is looking at prior to offering their vote.
