guys in the forums arms are more likely to vote based on skill required to finnish the job rather than the appearance alone. I think it may be worthwile for general public to see job of the month but perhaps only after the winner has been chosen by those in the arms who will be in a better position to appreciate the skill and craftmanship that is required to complete the whole job rather than basing purely on how it looks to the untrained eye.
An educated tiler/ tradesperson will notice good prep, good setting out, intricate cuts such as mitred edges, bullnoses and cutting acuracy etc etc
I can say from my own experience that when I have voted I havent voted purely on the best looking/ fanciest pictures but also base my vote on the skill and efforts that would need to have been applied to the job. I think general public may lack this ability.
so i guess what I am saying is that I think they should see the winner and all entrants after voting has been done.
I think that's a really good point,
we can have a really inspiring pictures of tiling that is well set out and looks great but if is dot and dabbed, we wouldn't know. If one of those jobs make it into JOBM, and then can be shown as such as advertising, in a sense a bad job is validated as a good one, so from that point of view entries from people who at least know what they are doing are just that bit safer.
New tiling does look good right at the start, we don't know if those tiles are going to fall off again, and how easy it would be then for some cowboy to say to some poor customer "It's alright love, I know what I'm doing, look I even got entered for the JOTM on tilers forums, only pros get that!"
Albums or no albums, can't the top three entrances be shown by Dan on a separate thread for everyone to see as I suggested earlier, after voting has finished?
