started with one quote and he said it was to dear for the first time i have actually lowered a quote as i have no other work booked in till my holiday then my second quote he said he was 50-50 i explain as follow tell me if you think this is too expensive

24 m2 limestone polished in room 1
15 m2 limestone polished in room2
20 m2 pebble mosaic in room 3
9 m2 brick mosaic in room 4
28 m2 brazilian slate on balcony

all labour only first quote i put in was £4000 then i lowered it to £3500 i have been advised not to lower it anymore the guy who i spoke to is a builder i think £3500 myself if abit cheap he said that all the tilers where he lives are busy i doubt it

i know but i dont want to do it for anything less than £3500 or i would be loosing out plus i need another tiler to help me.

He want it doing in double quick time then ?

Obviously I don't know the rooms\cuts involved but what you got... 96sqm, alot of wet cutting....

How long do you think it would take you on your own LM ?

if its the only work you have on and you could do with the cash then dont lower any price yet...

go and see the customer, explain really nicely about the quality of your work and the finish hes going to receive and then hit him with this question...'how much were you expecting the price to be for a professionally install'???? let him answer. this normally puts them under a bit of pressure. i bet he doesnt expect 500 off. i bet he'll say around 300 max....you wait and see!!! just be really thoughtful when your explaining how well you work and reassure him that the job quote is a reflection of your standards and ebility.

i know under normal circs you would stand by your price but seeing as the market is a bit dodgy and also that you are goin away then maybe you could have an exception to the rule..all business have a degree of flexability.

hope it works out 4 u mate, just dont panic and knock 500 off yet!

you have hit the nail on the head there tiler b spot on i did explain throughly about the price reflects my work and he could happly log on to my pictures in my album on tilersforums and also offered a gurantee the guy being a builder i would have thought he might have had an idea of the price he claims the job is straight forward which all builders say that anyway i let you though thanks for your comments

ahh he's a builder, sorry , overlooked that bit..then he wont give a damn about your quality because he probably doesnt care about his own...££££££££££ thats all builders care about.how much, how quick...just give him your bottom line price and then tell him thats it, take it or leave it..

i wont work 4 builders, private work only now. my dad was a tiler who turned into a builder he was a pain in the r's at times..now you see where i get it from!

Cumbria.... he can't find a tiler closer than Preston.... I would be thinking along the lines of him getting someone to do the work from quite a long way off so he could then either refuse to pay for the work or start knocking massive chunks off in the view you wouldn't want the hassle of chasing money from such a distance and hopefully take what he offered.

Personally I would be saying it's my full price and full payment for each room as completed before starting on the next, and cash only.
