Hi,

Stumbled upon this forum a few weeks ago...thought I would just say Hi!

I'm in a precarious position at my current job, redundancy has been mooted a few times now over the past few years.
Looks like it might finally come in the next few months.
Good thing is though I should get a severance package which would allow me to set up on my own..It's very early days yet of course, but I've always been a bit handy, renovated a few houses and done virtually all the work from fitting new bathrooms, kitchens, flagging, loft conversions etc.
In a strange way I've sort of wanted this situation to come about as I've really always wanted to be my own boss and this may become a great opportunity...let's see how it goes.
I've done tiling before, basic stuff though, kitchen splashbacks etc, floors, wooden and solid, both needed work to level and stabilise them so it hasn't been to a glass flat surface!!
Anyway, thought about tiling and bathroom installations as I've always felt good after the ones I've done myself and you pick a fair bit up, plenty of mates are tradesmen and I can hold my own against some of em
I'm a Project Engineer/Manager now with a good background in the service/utilities industry which I can take a lot from into the future if I go down the self employed tiling route.
So, Hello!, and any advice you can give me will be appreciated...it'll be a complete change if/when it happens, I'm mid 40's and have been too comfortable for the last 25 years in one company with a regular wage/pension/company car etc etc. Looking forward to the challenge!

welcome Jenks, it's a different world out here mate, scary and hairy sometimes but it;s a great way to earn a living
