Kayaking.

Do any of you guys do it? Keep thinking about doing it with the kids looks really good fun.

I used to do it when I was at school (about 15 years ago), Went on 2 trips to the south of France Canoe Kayak on Ardeche river - Vallon Pont d'arc You can climb up the inside of the arch (pont d'arc) in the picture and jump about 40ft into the water! Well cool when you're 15!!! Mega holiday, loads of rapids, highly recommended

Wasn't really into open water kayaking... But I was really into White water and slalom canoeing. Came second in the scottish open championships for under 16 at Gandtully. It's one of the few things I miss from my teens and was totally hooked on it. It's a great thing to get your kids into and when you take your first bit if white water... You never forget it.

I did some when I worked as a youthworker in Cornwall, but only on a huge lake where they did windsurfing and other watersports. Really nice when you get into the rythm, with the sun beating down on you, but I just couldn't bring myself to practice that 360 degree turn, to to turn myself underwater with my legs trapped, chickened out of that one, - even though I love water! - but it's really something everyone should know! You're a bit of an action man, aren't you Andrew.. you'll love it..

I was part of the water sports club (no sniggering!!) at school and did windsurfing as well as kayaking and sailing. Brill fun, deffo go and do it with the kids mate, they will love it. As part of the holiday in my previous post we did windsurfing in the mediterranean sea, amazing, alot harder to do it in the sea than on a calm lake!

I done a bit of canoeing in my youth too.
I remember one day we were out in the Irish Sea of Co.Louth when a monstrous sea lion popped his big ugly head up out of the water very near my canoe ...:yikes:
That's was one of my quickest 100m ever,lol.

i bought one end of last year but i only went out once, i kept going round in circles, it just wouldn't go in a straight line:mad2: it's parked up behind my garage at the moment. i'll get it out soon and try again

Just keep practising.. it just means you were stronger on one side ...

it wasn't that as i've done a lot of rowing in the past. when the kayak veered to one side i paddled hard that side but no matter how hard i paddled i couldnt get it back. maybe it's a surf canoe or i may put a keel on it :lol:
