Hi all.

Is it just preference or ... should I lay my kitchen floor tiles first then fit new skirting on top or fit the new skirting first then tile to the skirting?

(I do have a wall that is not at 90 degrees to the other--slightly off. by laying the kitchen floor tiles first, the skirting does hide the gap)

... so just wondering if it's ok to do it my prefered way or would there be future problems.

Cheers Fellas

Cheers Fellas .. you're right, it does hide the gap--though I do lose the end of one side of the tile as the tiles I've chosen for my kitchen floor are the Cora Terracotta Floor Tile from ToppsTiles and the edges are like a wavey effect but just thought I'd come on here to ask incase there might be a problem doing it that way.

:welcome:

so by 'set out', what do you mean exactly? :dizzy2:

Setting out = planning your tiling before you begin, ie, you should know where the last tile is going to go before you lay the first one.
Don't start at the wall; walls are very rarely straight and rooms are very rarely (never) square, so your wavy line along the edge of the tile will almost certainly not be under the skirting. The tile edges that are hidden by your skirting will be cut edges, not wavy ones.
Hope this helps.

hmmmmmm ... that helps kinda. but the tiles I've laid out on the floor wont need any cuts as that would shorten the tiles--more than one would have to be cut with what you're saying.

Bit confused now! The tiles that will need cutting will be at the edge of the room where it meets the wall/kitchen unit/door etc! Surely there must be some that need cutting?
Try dry-laying (no adhesive) somewhere near the centre of the room and work out your layout so that you have decent size tiles at each wall. Try not to have less than a fifth of a tile anywhere, ie no slivers.

Are you saying that the width and length of the room can be diivide excactly by the width of your tile (including grout lines), and all walls are perfectly square with each other. If so you have found the Holy Grail of tiling!

Ha ha. That's exactly what I was thinking!!

 yea! I wish. each tile is 30cm x 30cm and if I remember from the wall to underneath my kitchen unit is about 12 full tiles but one will have to be cut by something like 75% of it as all 12 tiles incl. spacing is about 6cm short of going under the unit plinth.

if you want, it might help me and you if I send you pictures??
