Beg to differ !!!
Working in winter months, late afternoon and evening with no natural sunlight and just a spotlight is asking for trouble.
Straight edge etc is mandatory, but spotlights can cast the wrong kind of shadows. If you are doing a bathroom where downlighters are to be installed later, you will be suprised to see the different effect once they are switched on.

Next thing you will be saying is that you can tile in the dark - using a straight edge and a guide dog ????
Just remember there are many newbies on here !!! Takes years of practice to be able to trust your judgement and a straight edge. Many will come unstuck if they have poor light when tiling
What exactly is "the wrong kind of shadows"....and what is the"different effect"..other than being brighter?????

I would hazzard a guess it's the intenisity and angle of the light being focused in the downward direction and hitting the tile edges ?
Of course but if tiles are flush...whatever light will make them look good...whether poor or bright, there are no wrong kind of shadows to expose anything.I will agree with Nick in one respect...the ideal light to tile a room in is the light that is going to be finished article,so for all newbies..request that your customer has his lights installed before you start......Gaz
