I would give it ago if I had any eye problems but lucky for me I don't at the moment.

I would even give that hair loss clinic a go if I started going bald

going bald i can handle , in fact i like my hair short !! , just wondering about the eye lasering as i am driving for a living now , i might book one of those free appointments and see

This is Mrs Gooner66! Gooner59 is out so I thought I'd have a browse!! I had laser eye surgery a year last November and I still have to pinch myself that I can see so well. I had a prescription of about -3.50 in one eye and -3.75 in the other (shortsighted) with an astigmatism. I had debated for years having it done but never had the courage to do it. I am glad however that I waited as the technology had advanced since I first looked at having it done. I went to Ultralase, Optimax and Optical Express for a free consultation and decided upon Optical Express (all in Cardiff) as they seemed the most informative and coincidentally turned out to be the cheapest! It cost me about £3,100, though it varies from person to person. They also offered interest free credit which made life easier. I had always worn contact lenses before having the surgery and now I love the freedom of being able to see as soon as I open my eyes in the morning. The op was totally painless and the only feeling after the op was that you want to close your eyes cos you've peeled onions and your eyes water for a few hours. Go to bed is the best thing to do and then the next day....... well.... WOW what can I say my vision was perfect, better than 20/20. I could drive and have had no problems from that day onwards! I would recommend anyone to have it, but make sure you have wavefront, as this is an individual prescription for your eyes and is more accurate and gives much better results. Go book some free consultations, you're under no obligation and it may give you the inspiration to have it done. Good Luck. If you want to know anything else ask Gooner59 to ask me and if I can help I will

I know people who have had both good and bad experiences with it, but I would not go for the newspaper super offers, one of my patients had to go back three times with serious complications, I think Mrs Gooner rightly knew that her eyesight is worth more than saving a few quid. And the reserach obviously paid off, too, well done Mrs Gooner!!:hurray:
It depends how bad things are now, but there is always some risk with any surgery, so weigh up your inconvenience now carefully. If something goes wrong you will be the only one suffering, so do your homework and don't rush into anything.

I had it done back in 2006. Went with Ultralase which wasn't the cheapest, but I didn't want to go with the cheapest when it was my sight involved!

Can't fault it - perfect vision ever since (better than 20/20), no pain during or after (although a friend of mine had it done and he was in a lot of pain for days after - like walking around with soap in his eyes, he reckons).

You just have to take a course of eye drops for a few weeks, and wear silly little plastic eye caps that you tape onto your face at night to stop accidentally poking yourself in the eyes whilst asleep.

If I were you, get yourself booked in for a consultation. As already stated, most of them do 0% interest deals

I got mine done 10 years ago when I half lived in Florida.
Was something like -12.5 with astigmatism - pretty much blind without my contacts!
For 1 year after the op I had 20/10 vision which is better than 20/20.
2nd year my sight started to worsen and they re-zapped one of my eyes.
For the last 5 years my prescription has been -1 and -1.25 and use contacts.
Glad I had it done.

Things to bear in mind:

If your prescription has changed in the last 5 years then wait.

If you suffer from dry eyes it probably isn't worth the risk as surgery quite often results in drier eyes which can cause significant problems years down the line.

If you are 40+ in age then you will most likely be swapping one pair of glasses for another as it will almost certainly make you long sighted.

As said before it is surgery so not without risks and perfect vision can not be guaranteed. The mapping of your eye (shape and thickness of cornea) before surgery is vey accurate and this info means the laser knows exactly how much cornea to remove to obtain perfect vision. Unfortunately the body will heal the damaged cornea so the laser has to take a little more off to compensate for this. As everybody heals differently this is not an exact science.
