Laying 450x450 tiles outside

Hi Guys
Just about to register but I thought I'd test the water first so to speak ! being a complete novice
So I've got these 450 x 450 x 10mm tiles which I wanted to cover an old greenhouse base.The area is now under a pagola which is partily sheltered. I've filled the base with chippings and sand and wondered if the tiles could be layed onto the sand or would it mean forming a level cement screed

You would need a solid base of concrete or sand and cement screed for the tiles to be durable. With out this the tiles would crack pretty quick when walked on.

What are the tiles? They must be frost-proof for outside.
