Hi been asked to lay marble 4m2 in a bathroom just wanted to know whats best to put down on the floor first to prep its chip board at the minute. Plus are they a nightmare to cut and would i need a special blade? Will i need to seal them and in what order ie before i lay them or after? Sorry for all the questions!

Time's Ran Out

Hi Steve.
Assumming the chipboard floor is solid and you've screwed it down. I would always overlay a 6mm hardie backer board (stick and screw) Tape and seal the joints.
You'll need a wet saw with a diamond wheel to cut the marble tiles.
To seal the tiles make sure you use a marble seal and not a stone impregnator as they tend to leave a dull film on the surface.
You need to seal the tiles when they are completely dry so that may be before fixing/before grouting depending on your timespan.
Just a note - take care when working on top of the marble as it will show kneepad scratches etc.
Don't use coloured grouts!
Have fun.

You might think that the post by albert james is funny.
It reminded me of a job my old company had .
We had a job over the christmas period of 2007/xmas eve /xmasday/boxingday. We had to get this area completed before it re-opened it was basically running 24 hrs non stop ,So they had to employ some subbies to get job completed,(passageway,s and stairs)
Well on the first shift (12hr shifts) of laying 40 stair treads all were cuts + 20m passageway, the next shift turned up with the Boss to see how things were and noticed that they had tiled the Granite wrong way up  Lucky the subbies left with all there limbs intacted and never returned :65:
They completed the job with a fresh qualified gang.

As the other lads have said, 6mm hardibacker stick down with flexi adhesive using 6mm trowel also srew down keeping 50mm from edge of board, light marble light adhesive again flexi adhesive i would probably seal first, lay grout then seal again, its also best to have all sanitry wear out first if you can much easier and better job, if your not using hardibacker 12 mm ply acrylic prime and no nails the underside and screw down every 300 centres.
