Lazer levels looking to retire the spirit level :)

I have a sub £200 Bosch which is pretty good but I’m going to see what the difference is between that and the DeWalt and will report back. Not unpacked the DeWalt yet.

Sometimes it’s worth spending that bit extra IMHO.

Be very interested in your comparison as you will be comparing where I am with where I am considering going.
I am going to compare the Dewalts in the bargain bucket sector as soon as the latest one arrives.

Not quiet in the price range your looking for but just ordered one of these after my mate recommended it after his bosch one went **** up

I will let you know how it goes but worth a punt for 30quid not expecting much to be honest but anything else hes recommended to me has been good.

I am certainly not a tool snob, but do appreciate quality, from looking at the link the big difference to the other lasers referenced would be that the 360 degree reference is not the same, having a constant 360 degree reference is completely different to being able to turn the laser through a whole turn to make the same checks, especially when getting two walls and a floor parallel and square?
Bear in mind I am no expert and this is not my first trade, but I like to learn and do the best job I can without cutting corners.

Appreciate what you think of it in the real world of using it though, as often cheaper products with some skill and experience will still produce stellar results 😉

As the plasterers say though, if it looks alright then, it's alright, usually after they have plastered all your glass, doors and floor!

ooohhh
half selection

Yeah im a bit sceptical about it myself. Might be alright for smaller jobs says it can be out up to 0.5mm per 1m.

I will give it a go and let you know how it is, im usually the same thinking you get what you pay for but it wouldnt be the first time in my life i would be surprised.

I would never have bought it if it wasn't recommended by my mate i would have likely went with a dewalt one i seen at 150quid, but hey its an expetement it will get tested before i even dream of using it on the job.

Yes, they definitely compliment one and other. Lasers most definitely have weaknesses yet so do spirit levels.

The Dewalt laser line looks spot on BTW.

I noticed earlier they do the same one with a green beam https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-d...line-green-beam-laser/9873x?_requestid=429447
So going to see if it's any easier to work with, saying that after another day I wonder how I managed previously Lol

Right picked this one up this morningand it is night and day clearer.

Set the two up side by side and the green line is easier to see, but also looking how they fall on my tape measure, the green line is visibly thinner and measures 2mm which is a third thinner than the red at 3mm.
Chuffed with the tripod as well apart from the fact that minimum height is about half a meter.
Certainly making life easier, still using the levels as well, but more for flatness, vertical gaps etc

I have read through a load of old posts on the same subject so sorry to drag it up again but I have recently bought a dewalt https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dw088k-self-levelling-line-laser/38474
and I was surprised how wide the line is and not that fussed on the red laszer, I had expected the beam to be a more thin and precice line?
I have spotted this Bosch version too with a green lazer https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-0603..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=Z2EH4NY32BM065KXWMYR
abd wondered if anyone has any experience of them?

There seems to be a big step up in price from these to the models I have seen some of you guys recommend and I am very interested what the difference would be in jumping up to double or even quadruple the cost, are they really night and day better?

Cheers

You’ll never retire the spirit level in my opinion.

That said, I’ve not used a laser that’s any more than a couple of hundred.

As you’ve already mentioned, the laser line is too thick. Maybe I should look into a better laser. I don’t think I need to yet.

Hi there Steve,
When I first started tiling I used a basic but good quality spirit level which seem to be ok to a certain extent. I then decided to spend some dosh and buy one of the three directional Bosch laser systems, it is a great piece of kit and is easy to use....but I had the same problem, that the laser line is too thick so causing some ambiguity on where to set your batons. Tiling is only one part of my job, I run a Property maintenance business and one of my trades is fitting kitchens. When you’re laid under a kitchen floor cabinet trying to level it, it’s a pain having to keep getting up and down to see where the bubble is on the level. At this point I decided to buy a Bosch digital spirit level with an audible bleeper so you just lay under the cabinet, wind the legs up until it bleeps and it’s perfectly level...ahhh best of both worlds. I now use the Bosch spirit level for tiling and find it far more accurate than anything I’ve ever used. I’ve used it on my last couple of tiling jobs and can’t sing it’s praises enough. Here’s a link for it, go and have a look it’s definitely worth considering and at half or a third of the price of a decent laser. They come in a 600mm or 1200mm versions. https://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-gi...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CMXfpfCTyt0CFQbg1QodysoN8Q

I was so impressed with them that I bought both sizes. Let me know your thoughts and what you decide to go with.

Regards Dave
