I was reading on here that the figures for work received through letterbox drops are around 1 - 2%. ie 10000 flyers giving 50-100 jobs.

Where exactly does this figure come from and is it correct ?

It won't give 50 to 100 jobs, it will give 50 to 100 enquiries you will then need to convert them into jobs.

Remember it is just an average. If you delivered 10,000 really poor leaflets in an area with lots of tilers the response is likely to be much lower.

Personally I prefer to drop business cards instead of flyers. They seem to be retained more instead of thrown straight into the bin!

I have had jobs from every drop I have done, and currently preparing to do work from an recent enquiry I received form a card drop I did last summer!

Just done a leafelet drop at weekend in DIY car parks....i will let you know what % responce i get..

i always thought if you had a 2% response from leaflets that this is a really good result

Due to the fact that that sort of return is so accurate many other marketing strategies are compared to it. Cold calling can be similar too. Work on 1% when you're working out your Return On Investment (ROI) and you'll never fail to see a return providing the rest of your 'plan' is ok and compares to your competition.

I know of a family that use over 40's to do leaflet drops in batches by area and they charge very little compared to what the local rags and mags charge. And on 'advertiser day' you can guarantee the rest of the junk that comes through the door gets binned too - so having your leaflet dropped with one or two others on a random day can help get it seen.

You can have some fun with design too. I've done LOADS of leaflets for this sort of thing for loads of types of things and with them all I'd say (though it may not be in-keeping with your business theme or ethics) BIG YELLOW AND BLACK WARNING SIGNS with something like "warning: you're next tile project may be overprices and below standard if you don't consider calling XXXXX for a free quote or brochure" and make your brochure pretty and in-keeping with your design. You stand to get a better return - and you'll get people who are not ready for tiling requesting brochures so you'll get about an equal return for brochures and enquiries - presumably.

If a website isn't ranking in the search engines well and you optimise it you can get a massive % turnaround. Consider that if you have one.

As strange as it sound the place you're least likely to be can sometimes be the best ROI. So advertising your tile services by placing a leaflet despenser in your nearest large shopping centre (imagine like those guys offering you credit cards - but just a pretty stand near the lift or whatever at the weekends) can be the sort of thing that will see you a really unique type of enquire which if you work with and adapt a couple of times can become really beneficial.

Obviously don't get shelling out before you're ready to risk loose the cash though too. Half the time if not more than half I tend to find it doesn't work, but the other half of the time it far outweighs the loss else I wouldn't try unique things.

I'd recommend anybody to try 'idea's' they have about such a thing (we all have them) but give it a really good thinking about before you spend anything.

Getting partnered up or associated with related firms is a big winner here. If a big firm is doing advertising somewhere and you see it and can 'connect' with them somehow and offer your services whilst making their list of benefits in their promotion longer then you're both laughing as that's a fine win:win situation.

I used to target all the windows / doors salesmen and strike deals with them selling their customers underfloor heating. How many window companies knock on your door? I didn't even need to pick up the phone in most cases.

Let us know how it goes with it if you do go ahead mate. 🙂

And..... (sorry to go on).....

Be sure to track your customers / enquiries / leaflets well. If you can point out on a map which area's got you first leads or enquiries, then which of those turned into customers, then which of those gave you the most profit or more customers or whatever you can try and work out what type of area's they are (what type of homeowner) and then find other similar area's.

You'll find county's that are hundreds of miles apart will still have the same types of area's and therefore common patterns in their lifestyle and spending.

Doing a leaflet drop in stages and collating the information for each 'run' will help you point out the right direction to go for your next spending on leaflets.

Good posts there Dan.

For the letter box drops i have done so far i find im getting between 0.5 - 1% call backs, but you do find some people will keep your card\leaflet for a long time before calling you anyway.

Would you say posting a card rather than a flyer is better ?

Dan, you wouldn't whack me up a a flyer would you ? I'll paypal you some beer tokens ?

pm if you can.

Thanks

grumpy would you post up a pic of your card just to see what style you have went for as its working for you ?

Thanks
