Get yourself a good rubber mallet. I like these

You will find you can tap the tile to close joints up and help with getting a good bed coverage and level before inserting the wedge.
On smaller floors such as bathrooms I nearly always dry lay with cuts first. Then mix up a bag of adhesive and lay.
