Probably 50mm stud and it needs more screws...I seen 15mm boards used to make it more rigid.
we have over boarded before.. 2 x layers of 12.5mm , gives an inch of support.. usually works.

This metal stud walls have sole plate/ceiling plate and then vertical studs at 900mm centres.. no intermittent noggings.. so how can one fix other than to the studs..?
The walls are really springy and over boarding is sometimes the only way to make them rigid.. but again not always possible... maybe on a private domestic job the boarding can be removed and the walls structure strengthened but on a site like the OP has, he just has to tile it..
it isn't a case of standards have a long way to go, it is the building practices that need to be when fully tiling is to be installed and these are again different world wide..
