Jade, I would use clear car laquer, comes in a spray can, is what it says on the tin, clear laquer and very strong, strong and waterproof enough to use on cars, brilliant stuff. Available quite cheaply in most car accessory shops. Use it in a well ventilated area, don't breathe it in and don't overspray. test a small piece of the same ceramic and paint first to check it doesn't disolve whatever pain you have used. But I have used it very successfully on all sorts of paints and materials, the only thing it definitely disolves in my experience is felt tip pen. Good luck! Can we have pictures of your project? :)
