looking for advice

i want to become a tile and then go self employed but its in mind what if you cant get work could anyone give me advice ?

Hi welcome, getting work is the problem you will always find, no matter how long you have been self employed. the key is to get established,do a great job,get your name out there,make contacts and never rest on your laurels. Good luck.

that is the biggest problem when starting out. it's hard to get established and with the recession and getting undercut by cowboys it makes it so much harder. a lot of established tilers are struggling for work at the moment. i'm pretty quiet at the moment too. if you have a job it may be worth holding on to it and seeing how things go. good luck

Invariably it is not "what" you know ... it is "who" you know.
I packed in tiling last year because work had dried up. Things picked up now, plenty of domestic and commercial... but you never know what is round the corner.
Same said however for having a job, nobody's job is safe nowadays, you may get made redundant tomorrow, at least if you are self employed you are to some degree,the master of your own destiny. There is plenty of work out there... problem is that hundreds / thousands of tilers are out there chasing the same work.
Big decision !
The choice is yours, sure the lovely friendly community on tilersforums will do all we can to help you along your way.

you want to become a tile......lol, i take it you mean a tiler, if not lie on the floor and dont move..

joking apart mate, if you have a job i would stick with just now, things are tough out there, and i cant see it getting much better to soon..

i agree with andy,by all means go and do a short course and get some basics and also see if you like it....you could keep it for the future

things are very difficult at the minute and i wouldnt advise anyone to quit there job just now
